It won’t be long until they fire up the Big Green Eggs on the outdoor terrace demo area of the Loews Atlanta Hotel as the Atlanta Food and Wine Festival kicks off again May 30 through June 3.

A highlight of the class schedule will be a grilling demonstration by several notable Southern chefs demonstrating their skills with poultry as part of the “Springer Mountain Farms: Out of the Ordinary” class on Saturday, June 1 beginning at 11:30AM. The participating chefs are all from Atlanta: Jason Jimenez of Kitchen Six, Nick Leahy of AIX and Tin Tin, and Rusty Bowers from Pine Street Market. Southern food writer Chris Chamberlain will be moderating the class.

These talented masters of the grill will show class attendees how to break down a whole chicken so that home cooks can utilize every part of the bird. Emphasizing sustainable use of the protein, the chefs will explain how to draw different flavors from individual portions of a chicken and how different grilling techniques are appropriate for each cut of poultry. Not only will the students learn some great techniques, they’ll also enjoy accompanying beverages and get to sample the finished products hot off the grill. Tickets are still available for this class and other Atlanta Food and Wine events at the festival website, so don’t dawdle if you want to be part of the fun!
