charlotte celebrates 250 years with charlotte shout!

Through May 11, the city of Charlotte will celebrate its 250th year with Charlotte SHOUT!, the finale of the CLT250 campaign that began last year.

This celebration of all things Charlotte wouldn’t be complete without a few grand food events. Here’s how you can participate with your taste buds:

Cooking Class
Where: 7th Street Public Market
When: Monday, May 6 from 6 – 7:30 PM
Price: $55 per person (includes an apron)

Head over to one of Charlotte’s culinary hubs and participate in a cooking demo where you’ll learn a few culinary skills and ways to use seasonal ingredients. Each table seats 8-12 people which creates an intimate setting for guests and the chef.

The Math Behind the Menu
Where: Philip L. Van Every Culinary Arts Center
When: Monday, May 6 from 6:30 – 10 PM
Price: $100 per person

This six-course tasting dinner, brought to you by Piedmont Culinary Guild and Charlotte SHOUT!, will shed light on what it costs to use local ingredients and how this factors into dish prices. The chef lineup includes:

- Chef Alyssa Wilen of Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen with Chef Joe Bonaparte of International Culinary Institute of Myrtle Beach
- Chef Bruce Moffett of Moffett Restaurant Group with Chef Terra Ciotta of Tri County Community College
- Chef Tom Marlow of Mimosa Grill with Chef Jim Bowen of CPCC
- Chef Lewis Donald of Sweet Lew’s BBQ with Chef Adam Dietrich of CPCCC
- Chef Greg Balch of The Crunkleton with Chef Megan Lambert of JWU
- Chef Laney Parrish of 300 East with Chef Alvin of CCSC

24 Person Wine Tasting + Cheese Pairing
Where: 7th Street Public Market
When: Wednesday, May 8 from 6 – 7 PM
Price: $30 per person

Join Rachel from Orrman’s Cheese and Josh from The Assorted Table to unwind with lots of cheese and wine.

Stoke Wine Dinner
Where: Stoke Charlotte
When: Thursday, May 9 from 6 – 9 PM
Price: $95 per person

Feast on a multi-course meal with wine pairings at Stoke. What’s on the menu? Shrimp Benne Toast, Monkfish, Wood-fired Chicken, Sticky Pork Lettuce Wraps, and a signature dessert. Yum.

Soul Food Sessions Dinner
Where: 7th Street Public Market
When: Saturday, May 11 from 6:30 – 10:30 PM
Price: $95 per person (price subject to increase)

Join Soul Food Sessions for this sweet potato-themed dinner featuring founding members Chef Greg Collier, Chef Greg Williams, Chef Jamie Barnes, Chef Michael Bowling, and Chef Jamie Turner. Feature chefs include Anita Rucker of Fahrenheit, Darryl Cooper of The Cooking Coop, Marlene Barner, Treasure Williams, and Maria Elena Lundy. Drinks will be poured by mixologists Justin Hazelton and Jaquan Bowser. Get ready for six courses, three cocktails, and lots of fun.
