introduce your children to the kitchen this summer

Looking for a creative summer activity for your little one? Switch things up this season and enroll him or her in a culinary camp. Here are a few sweet options in Charlotte.

Immerse your child in the sweet life with a two-week long pastry workshop at Sweet Spot Studio. Week one in June focuses on American baking and decorating classics, while week two in July introduces the class to French pastry technique. Kids and teens 11 years or older are welcome to sign up. Participants will receive a chef’s coat and leave with a certificate of completion and priceless pastry experience.

Chef Alyssa’s Kitchen has both sweet and savory classes for kids and teens this summer with culinary camps and baking camps. And if you want to join the fun, sign up for a Parent/Child Pasta Making Class on May 31 or June 1. 

In the Culinary Camps (ages 7-12), students will learn to make various dishes of Italian, Jamaican, and Latin cuisine plus breakfast items and pastries. Participants of the Baking Camps (ages 11-18) will make tarts, profiteroles, puff pastry, various breads, apple pie, an ice cream pop bar, and bread budding.

Lil’ Chefs (ages 5-8) and Tween Chefs (ages 9-12) will have a ton a fun at Flour Power this summer. Check out the Blast from the Past class June 3-7, where kids will taste foods from past decades, or the Passport to Flavor class June 17-21 for samples of worldly cuisine. Enjoy some friendly competition with Iron Chef: Kitchen Stadium Challenge July 1-3, where teams will compete using a secret ingredient. If your child dreams of opening a restaurant one day, consider enrolling him or her in the I Want to Own a Restaurant! class August 12-16 for an educational look at what it takes to own and work in a restaurant.
