This month GReKo Greek Street Food celebrates two years in business serving their unique style of soulful authentic Greek food from their East Nashville location at 704 Main Street. Founded by brothers Tony and Bill Darsinos, GReKo celebrates their Greek heritage with plates of roasted meats and vegetables sold at quite affordable prices considering the culinary artistry involved and the high-quality ingredients the kitchen utilizes in their preparations.

There’s also quite a bit of artistry in the decor of the building where both the exterior and interior are covered with vibrant street art reminiscent of the whimsical graffiti that decorate the walls of many quaint Greek villages. The Darsinos strive to recreate that small town atmosphere with many aspects of their restaurant focusing on cooking techniques they learned from their YiaYia (grandmother) and the sort of grilled street food that they remember from their ancestral town of Nemea.

The kitchen revolves around live fire cooking, using wood as a source of heat and flavor to accent dishes that feature olive oil and wine from the homeland, in addition to fresh pitas made in-house daily. A highlight entree that has become a neighborhood favorite is GReKo’s Athenian Chicken, a bone-in Springer Mountain Farms rotisserie chicken, drizzled with honey-lemon sauce and served with either seasoned rice or Greek street fries. (Pro tip: get the fries!)

Even in Nashville’s crowded restaurant market and in the middle of a stretch of Main St. that continues to grow up around their humble little building, the Darsinos remain a stand-out choice for Greek food cooked with passion and authenticity. Drop by sometime this month and wish GReKo’s Greek Street Food a happy birthday!
