  • Skip the appetizer. A lot of times, restaurant apps are as many or even more calories than some entrees. If you want to start with something, pick a side salad with a light or fat free dressing.

  • Same for soups! Unless you see a healthy option, skip the soup. The sodium content can be extremely high in restaurant soups so look for another option if you have to stick to a low sodium diet.

  • Many restaurants offer free bread or chips when you sit down. Avoid the temptation and tell your hostess or server that you don’t need them before they get delivered to the table.
